Parsons staff were able to really see the impact the library has on kids through three fun programs the week of June 22.  Monday saw the Turtle Lady draw in 47 people who loved seeing all of her reptile friends, big and little.  On Tuesday twenty kids got creative and made their own little creatures with the Monster Mash program.  Thursday we finished up the week with over a dozen kids enjoying teen gaming in the meeting room.  It was nice to see people taking advantage of all the free programs and entertainment that the library provides!

The first full week of SRC has been a busy one at Parsons!  On June 8, Ohio Nature Education entertained over a dozen kids with many different birds and insects.  On June 9, our meeting room was packed as 42 people gained spaces on their reading records by reading to the therapy dogs.  This was a great way for families to enjoy Summer Reading Club together, and it helped the younger kids practice their Ready to Read skills on a captive audience!

On June 11, we hosted Renuka Bhatt and the whole branch enjoyed getting henna tattoos – even the staff got in on the fun!  Displaying our henna designs to the patrons was a very effective way to advertise the program, and many kids said they’d be back later in the summer when Renuka comes to visit us again.

For the last three years the Parsons branch has hosted a big community art project where local students help decorate the meeting room for Summer Reading Club (SRC).  This year nine classes, about 200 kids, walked over to the library and learned all about SRC.  Each student also made a special zoo animal to add to the “Get a Clue at the Zoo” mural in the meeting room.  The kids are looking forward to spotting their creation when they attend

fun programs this summer.
